Line a citrus squeezer or garlic press with thin cloth to filter pulp while pressing oil

Cover the holes of a lime/lemon squeezer (or garlic press) with a very thin fabric so oil can pass through while solids are held back.

The creator uses a thin piece of fabric (handkerchief-thin) as a filter inside the press. For the citrus squeezer, they cover the holes before loading the dried avocado pulp. The same lining approach is shown for a garlic press.

The short version

  • Use very thin cloth so oil can pass through
  • Cover press holes to keep solids back

What you need

  • thin fabric/clothHandkerchief-thin; used as a filter liner
  • lime/lemon squeezer
    optional
    Preferred for larger batches
  • garlic press
    optional
    Works well for small amounts

How to do it

  1. 1

Cut a very thin piece of fabric (handkerchief-thin).

The creator suggests buying thin fabric from a fabric store.

  2. 2

For a citrus squeezer: lay the cloth inside so it covers the holes.

Make sure the holes are covered before loading pulp.

  3. 3

For a garlic press: place the cloth down inside the press in the same way.

Use this for small amounts; the citrus squeezer holds more.

What goes wrong

Using fabric that’s too thick

Use very thin cloth so oil can drip through.

Why it works

The cloth acts as a fine filter, reducing pulp (“gut”) in the expressed oil and helping prevent blowouts through the press holes.
