Dry avocado pulp in the sun before pressing to extract oil

Spread avocado pulp out and sun-dry it until it’s mostly dry (still slightly green), then flip to dry evenly before pressing out the oil.

The video shows making avocado oil by dehydrating avocado pulp outdoors in direct sun, then pressing the dried pulp to release oil. The creator flips the pulp partway through so both sides dry. They note it doesn’t need to become fully crispy—aim for a dry consistency with a little green remaining.

The short version

  • Flip during drying for even dehydration
  • Aim for mostly dry pulp; not necessarily fully crisp

What you need

  • spatula
    optional
Used to flip the drying pulp

How to do it

  1. 1

Spread avocado pulp out and place it in direct sun to dry.

Drying time depends on climate; the creator reports about a day in strong sun.

  2. 2

Flip the drying pulp with a spatula so the other side dries.

It doesn’t need to be fully crispy; a mostly-dry consistency with a little green is fine.

  3. 3

Once dried to the target consistency, proceed to pressing to extract oil.

If you bag it, it can re-moisten, so press soon after drying.

What goes wrong

Over-drying until it’s overly crispy

Stop when it’s mostly dry but can still show a little green.

Letting dried pulp re-moisten in a bag before pressing

Press soon after drying, or keep it as dry as possible until pressing.

Why it works

/Drying reduces water so the pulp releases oil more readily when pressed and is less likely to turn into a wet paste that’s hard to squeeze cleanly.
