Wash the wok with soap and a scrubby sponge to remove the machine oil coating.

Heat the wok over a gas flame until it is very hot and starts to change color.

Rub a thin layer of oil over the entire surface of the wok.

Wipe out excess oil with a clean paper towel, leaving a thin layer.
