  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups Warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp YeastActive dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp ButterSoftened
  • 4 cups White bread flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • Oil(optional)For greasing bowl

    Add sugar to warm water and mix until dissolved.

    Add yeast to the water and mix. Set aside for 10 minutes to activate.

    Add the liquid to a mixing bowl.

    Add softened butter, white bread flour, and salt to the bowl.

    Knead the dough using a stand mixer or by hand for 10 minutes until smooth.

    Lightly grease a medium-sized bowl with oil and set aside.

    Form the dough into a ball and place it in the greased bowl. Cover and let it proof in a warm spot for 1 hour.

    Knock back the dough, form it into a flat square, fold the sides, and roll it into an oval shape.

    Place the dough on a baking tray, sprinkle with flour, cover with a cloth, and proof for 45 minutes.

    Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) with a pan of hot water on the bottom shelf.

    Score the dough with five evenly spaced cuts.

    Bake for 30 minutes. Optionally, spray the oven with water for a crispier crust.
