Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 500 g Lean stewing beefdiced
  • 2 Onionsfinely diced
  • Saltto taste
  • White pepperto taste
  • 2 cubes Beef stockor natural stock
  • 1 tsp Tomato pasteheap teaspoon
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire saucea good splash
  • 1/4 cup Red wine(optional)
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 3 Potatoesdiced into 1 cm cubes
  • 2 tsp Corn flourmixed with cold water

    Heat oil in a large frying pan and add diced beef. Fry until browned, about 5 minutes.

    Add finely diced onions and fry until soft.

    Transfer beef and onions to a saucepan. Season with salt and white pepper.

    Add beef stock, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and optional red wine. Add bay leaves.

    Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 hour.

    Add diced potatoes and simmer for another 10 minutes.

    Remove bay leaves and thicken with corn flour mixed with cold water.

    Cool the filling completely before using in the pie.

    Preheat oven to 170°C (340°F). Roll out pastry and line pie tin.

    Fill pie with cooled filling, cover with pastry lid, and decorate.

    Brush with egg wash and bake for 50 minutes.

    Let pie rest for 10 minutes before serving.
