Ingredients
  • •4 1/2 Vanilla beansMadagascar vanilla beans; split lengthwise to expose seeds
  • •8 oz VodkaPlain vodka, 35% alcohol / 70 proof; plus a little extra to fully cover beans
Instructions
  1. 1

Plan ahead: start the extract at least 3 to 4 weeks before you want to use or gift it so it can steep.

  2. 2

Split the vanilla beans lengthwise by running the tip of a knife down each bean to expose the seeds.

  3. 3

Place the split vanilla beans into a clean bottle (an 8 oz bottle is used here).

  4. 4

Using a funnel, pour in vodka until the vanilla beans are completely covered (top off with a little extra vodka if needed).

  5. 5

Cap the bottle and shake. Shake again every couple of days while it steeps.

  6. 6

Let steep for a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks before using; flavor continues to deepen the longer it sits.
