Homemade Bagels
Soft and chewy homemade bagels that are easy to make and better than store-bought.

- •1 tbsp Soft brown sugar(optional)or honey
- •1 cup Warm water
- •7 g Instant dried yeastor 20 g fresh yeast
- •500 g White bread flour
- •1 tsp Salt
- •Cooking oil(optional)for greasing
- •1 tbsp Bicarbonate of soda(optional)or baking soda
- •1 count Egg(optional)for egg wash
- •Sesame seeds(optional)for topping

Mix soft brown sugar or honey with warm water. Add yeast and mix well. Set aside to activate.

Combine active yeast mixture with white bread flour and salt. Knead by hand or with a stand mixer for 10 minutes.

Grease a bowl with cooking oil. Place dough in bowl, cover, and let proof for 1 hour.

Divide dough into six equal pieces, about 115 g each. Roll each into a ball and let rest for 10 minutes.

Shape each ball into a bagel by poking a hole in the center or rolling into a sausage shape and joining ends.

Proof shaped bagels on a floured tray for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 180°C (355°F). Boil water and add bicarbonate of soda. Boil bagels for 1 minute on each side.

Place boiled bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes until golden brown.
