Ingredients
  • 500 grams White bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons YeastActive dry yeast
  • 30 grams ButterSoftened
  • 305 milliliters WaterWarm, about 40°C

    Dissolve sugar in warm water (40°C) and add yeast. Stir and let activate for 10 minutes.

    Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Make a well and add yeast mixture.

    Add softened butter and mix until combined.

    Knead dough by hand for 10 minutes until smooth and supple.

    Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour.

    Grease a 900g loaf tin with lard, butter, or oil.

    Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in the prepared tin.

    Cover with a cloth and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.

    Preheat oven to 180°C (355°F). Place a pan of hot water at the bottom for steam.

    Slash the top of the loaf and bake for 30 minutes.

    Remove loaf from tin and bake directly on the oven rack at 210°C (410°F) for 6 minutes for a crusty finish.

    Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
